Did you know there is a 3rd Naturist Beach in South Australia?
Your ANF president and South Australian representative visited it this week.
It’s accessible only by 4WD or via Sunland Holiday Village by foot, via the Wombat trail.
The first post you will see is the Wombat trail, marking the beginning, of the clothing optional beach, the next post and seats is Sunland. The nudist section continues to Lurline Point. (photo)
This beach is backed by the Sunland resort, which has a 500 m long walking track through to the beach, just north of Lurline Point.
Travelling from Robe the track is 1.4kms from the cross roads at Nora Creina, down bog lane.
Follow the signs from the cross roads.
A warning to prospective beach visitors that the bypass track is definitely 4WD only and that 1080 fox baits (very dangerous to dogs of all kinds, kids too) may present above the high-tide mark, all along the coast.
Please note that if you are intending to travel on the sand tracks along this coastline, particularly through the winter months, you should be aware of the following:
Tracks often are changed by the rough seas and gale force winds.
The beaches are very soft, tides and seas can be very high. It is recommended that you obtain a Tide Time Chart (obtain from the Council Office or Visitor Information Centre)
Make sure you have appropriate recovery gear.
Let the pressure down in your tyres (recommended PSI is 15)
Stay on the marked tracks on the maps provided.
If you become bogged it is very difficult to find someone to come and pull you out. It is therefore safer to travel with at least one other vehicle.
Phone coverage is often poor so you need to climb to the nearest high point to phone for help.
Take the appropriate action to ensure your visit along our coastline is an enjoyable one. It is a beautiful area and the trip should be a memorable experience for all the right reasons.
IF IN DOUBT – GET OUT – AND WALK THE TRACK AHEAD
New speed limits on our beaches December 1st 2023
Based on thousands of respondents, South Australians’ preference, on average, was for a default speed limit of 40km/h and 25 km/h when passing or within 100 metres of a pedestrian
The other 2 naturist beaches are Maslin Beach, and Pelican Point beach at Barmera.
